A Call to Artists & Scholars

By its name, this retreat was conceived by me for writers - most obviously poets and dramatists. However recently, I have made an open invitation to artists of all categories - as well as scholars of art/culture and Hispanic/Romantic Language Studies. This has been done to honour the fact that Federico Garcia Lorca was not only one of the world's greatest poet/dramatists of the last century who had influenced an enormous number of writers internationally and continues to do so, but inspired the work of renowned artists from the world of dance, painting, jazz, film etc. His lecture/essay on "Duende" has been frequently cited by all kinds of creators. Furthermore, Lorca's own talents also crossed into other arts - and his 'drawings' or visual peoms were exhibited in the same Galeria Dalmau (Barcelona) where his friends and others exhibited- Dali, Miro, Picasso, Picabia, Delaunay. Indeed, Miro considered Lorca an exemplary outstanding visual artist.

So, as I continue to direct this retreat to share my knowledge and expertise that I have been fortunate to have gained, I welcome all artists inetrested in a profound experience of Andalucia and specifically Granada - the City of Lorca - to give this time of inspiration to themselves and their art.

As a writing retreat- I define this loosely enough - such that many artists do have writing as part of their art practice- in process of concept and idea. And as much, the retreat is about a time to speculate and probe while at the same time experiencing the sensory fruits of a vivid inspiring culture.
